5 Mindful House Gifts for summer invites…

If you’ve been invited as house guest for the summer, instead of gifting your host the ubiquitous beer, ‘fun’ wines (‘fun’ because of the overdesigned label) or fandango cheese concoctions, think outside the box. Taking cheese just gets to be ironically, too cheesy…

Howzabout some great House Gifts that say, thanks for the inviting me to spend some QT with you…

Here’s some suggestions:

Skybar Wine Chill Drops from Williams-Sonoma Box of 2 for $39.95

I thought these were a gimmick at first, however when it comes to white wine, these frozen droplets bring the temperature down pronto. No patience and I don’t dilute, these little guys are surprisingly effective.

WHO FOR: Harried house guest who buys a bottle from the shop down the road and only the guzzlers are being chilled.

WHY: To ensure that you don’t leave my host thirsty for too long. These Wine Chill Drops are now in their freezer awaiting your room temp bottle and all thirsts will be attended to sharply.

Rosle Can Opener Cooking.com $36.95

Right after I got this can opener (and figured out how to use it), I knew that it was post worthy. It is form and function at its best—in every glorious can opening moment. This is why I love the industry of product design and it makes me want to share with others what these talented people create for us…

WHO FOR: Foodies who have drawers dedicated to can openers, from the cheap and rusty, to the useless and unfunctioning.

WHY: There’s nothing more frustrating than getting ½ way round a can of tomatoes and seeing the rusty claw dig into the juices below and then to stop, as the tool refuses to open anymore.

A Taste for Wine and Murder Mystery AreYouGame.com $25

Is the conversation around the dinner table or at the grill, starting to get a bit same old, same old…?

WHO FOR: For those who want to bring back challenges and conversations at the dinner table.

WHY: Because I love you all, but there’s nothing like dying with laughter to rustle thing up a

little.

Plank’s Art On Yoga Mats Plankdesigns.com $85

Since I make it my intention to practice when I’m away, either with family or as a lucky invited house guest, when I start to practice others often want to join. Even if this wasn’t my company, I’d still want to share the gift of yoga as an alternative for a run.

WHO FOR: Someone who practices yoga and hosts you sometime over the summer vacation.  Howzabout  breaking the norm, giving something more mindful instead of the heart cloggers that most people bring?

WHY: QT is precious part of visiting with family and friend. If you’re staying over, practicing some mindful activities amongst some of the more mindless activities, it’s a great way to tell your hosts you love and care about them.

Nesting Lotus Bowls Uncommon Goods $325

This maybe up there, but I would go warm and fuzzy if I received this set of Nesting Lotus Bowls. I typically don’t like things that are literal, however this set of bowls makes me feel at peace just looking at them…

WHO FOR: Really special hosts (or maybe yourself)

WHY: When family and friends get together there are never enough bowls the right size to contain the plethora of dishes that get prepared. The table often ends up a mish mash of dishes and plates. I can imagine these bowls bringing some inner peace and harmony to the last minute vessel hunting when the meal is finally ready to get to table…

Being present is the best gift a guest can give, however if you do want to add a little something extra, these are some of my suggestions based on the experiences I want to share with my friends and family when we’re together. Now to get me a beach house, so I can invite you all over…

WHG, an expert in all things, shoes + heels + fitting yoga into a busy lifestyle…
