ExtraOrdinary Body Awareness for ExtraOrdinary Physical Results… for an Ordinary Rebel…

So if I was to tell you that with a little insight, you could double your distance for your runs IN A WEEK and take off 11 minutes from your run by the NEXT WEEK… What would you say…

Take it from me, the girl who’d rather take an ADD pill to take care of her weight and has recently decided to stop, when pill #3 was prescribed to take care of symptoms, caused by pills #1 & 2. Pissed that I have to go back to my pre-kids workout intensity, to keep the weight off… Damn it, I like a quick fix…

As the pounds crept up to double digit & my diet basically healthy, my 2.5 yoga workouts per week weren’t cutting it & certainly not, the lard off… What’s a short, squat gal to do, with a wardrobe of attire that doesn’t fit? Go piss and moan and take it out on my other ½, go shopping or go exercise… I chose to spend the last 3 months moaning & not in the way my other ½ likes…

It was time to hit the pavement running, since I was not a member of a gym and having discovered the benefits of adding yoga to my run, 18 months ago, when I combined the sound bites of mid-strike running with my alignment practice yoga, the highly educative Iyengar & Anusara Yoga. Finding ease in my running style through yoga, was as simple as, not plodding like a sack of potatoes

I certainly didn’t wake up with the intention to double the distances or take double digits minutes off my run. If someone would have told me that I had to set a challenging goal before my run, I’d’ve told them to go kiss my a**. However the results speak for themselves, with the deep insight my alignment practice gave to me, along with the natural supplement, Xtra, by Univera, I was able to continually correct any misalignment and relax any tension during my recent runs.

There are so many alignment corrections/yoga tools that were applied, from the moment I took my first mid-strike step, the laundry list of tools used would bore even me, to tears. However the simple rule to consider is, basically I can count on my alignment ALWAYS being out, since I had the skill and awareness, my job was to re-align whilst running, once an awareness had been spotted.

Here’s an example of one of the hundreds of corrections that occurred during my runs: at one point I noticed my legs feeling heavy, instead of giving up, stretching or changing the music, like I would do in the past, this time, I asked myself what can I do to lighten my trunk and lift the weight off my hips. I looked to Mountain Pose, but not your stand at the edge of mat and let’s hang out. No, the intense power burning and energetically uplifting Mountain Pose, as taught, in Iyengar and applied that to my run. An IY Mountain Pose/Tadasana, will realign my spine vertebrae, by vertebrae. As I lift each compacted vertebrae off each other into a properly aligned spine, new muscles came into play and as the bones align, so did the pipes, ensuring that the good & bad stuff went where they needed to go…

It goes without saying, that the level of body awareness I have just began to master comes from my amazing instructors teaching both, live, online, Iyengar, Anusara, Baptiste Power Flow and not forgetting, the instructor when there is no instructor, care of the feedback technology of Plank’s body heat activated grip yoga mats. Each yoga tool I apply to my run, acts like a powerful gear, coupled with the mental clarity the Xtra supplement offered me, the capacity to really use my run as a moving meditation was heightened. The result was I focused solely inwards, a real mind/body connection, not concerning myself with much else.

I cannot guarantee, that you’ll have the same results, maybe I am a more natural runner than I first perceived, however at 10.5 minute miles, I don’t think so…

I’m still effing proud of my achievement and believe if I can do it, some of you more committed & also the not-so committed folk, would really get a lot more out of your yoga practice, if you saw beyond the stretching benefits of yoga and actually added extraordinary body awareness INTO your run, cycling, walking, shagging…
