There’s never an inappropriate occasion to not wear heels. In memory of Nikki Cho Russo…

Yesterday was the 5th birthday party of the son of one of my dearest friends R.I.P. Nikki Cho Russo. It was great to see the home filled with her friends and their kids, like she would have wanted it. Knowing my husband, the production of these big social gatherings are not really his cup of tea, under the circumstances, logistically + emotionally my hats off + my heart on for you, Mr Russo. It was a gorgeous day again for a Russo production, may the sun always shine on Russo Productions, especially the birthday boy du jour.

Anyway I’m writing this post, as an ode to my friend, since I received many a positive comment for the Ruthie Davis shoes, aka the go-to brand for fierce glamour, coming out for a 5 year old birthday party. Chatting with one of her close friends, Nikki’s presence + influence really came to mind. Severin Maneul loved the Ruthies, the dressing up of my dressing down for a kids party even with lawn to negotiate + in true WHG style, I said for me there is no occasion for me to not wear heels, shoes are my passion, especially the heeled variety.

Fashion, including footwear went on pause after the kids were born, and the then, soccer mother comfort attire started to become reflective of who I could become. I recalled a conversation with Nikki, admiring how she would always look fabulous + even though I had some similar clothes, I wouldn’t wear them out much. Nikki said life is too short and seriously now that we’re mothers, what occasions are there for us to wear the stuff we love and are passionate about. As the baby padding started to disappear, due to my yoga practice, I’m sure Nikki’s words were their in the background when choosing daily outfits to go to my office of one employee, me or life itself. As much as Nikki inspired me to put the soccer mother attire to bed,  I know as much as she loved the looks of the 4 plus inchers, however, she kept her footwear heights to 2.5-3″. Don’t get me wrong she had the most amazing mid height footwear boots, shoes + sandals, but reduced her ownership of some of the higher heights, due to considerations for eventual foot pain. Since, I now have a couple of tools to enable longer high heel wearing, I would have liked to be able to reciprocate the inspiration, so that she could have taken steps to reaching higher heights for her footwear, that is…

Thus, as is my passion to encourage others similarly, to dress up, especially with regards to the foot attire, as an expression of bringing one’s inner beauty, out, I want to pay homage to the ever present + gorgeous Nikki Cho Russo, who re-nurtered the seeds of fabulousness for me + offer it as a birthday memory to the Cho Russo family. Hopefully, one day when her son is able to read, he will have these stories of how his mother could really touch her world, well at least mine…

Happy Birthday, my dear boy…
