Yoga: Check. Day one and the next, can be sooo complete …

I don’t have to practice yoga everyday, however when it was written in the cards and I miss my original window of opportunity, I get truly bent out of shape. Some days I can jump right into finding an alternative and other days I need a gentle push, even just posting my intention, helps to find some momentum to take action…

Thankfully, the MindBodyOnline iPhone app along with some yoga buddies came up with some suggestions and I decided upon taking South Boston Yoga’s, Intermediate Class with Todd Skoglund. Todd’s class is always full, what I enjoy about the owners of SBY’s classes, is their higher percentage of male participants, which is not the result of heat or overuse of the term, Power Yoga. I wasn’t planning to bring a towel, but I am so glad that I did, I can’t quite remember what poses we were doing, all I remember is that I was sweating almost as much as when I’m in a hot Power Yoga class…

Todd has some unique sequencing and it wasn’t until I was mid humid, sweaty 6 miler, that I remembered the shoulder openings and Eagle arms (arms twisted in a double bind) sequencing. Why this came to mind is that, as I took an internal inventory check of how my body was holding up, I noticed my shoulders were quite unusually relaxed and drawn down my back. Previous runs during the week, pointed out tightness in the shoulder & neck area. I tried to relax and pay attention to them during the run, but nothing beats the un-knotting, that my knotted arms from Todd’s class produced the very next day. Plank AAPPs loud and clear, revealing to me, how a yoga tool applied to my run, made my jog better, durable and very smooth, despite my original waning enthusiasm, due to oppressing humidity…

Check out this AAPP ¬†for your next run… and come back to see how else The Well-Heeled Guru applies her stuff…
