You mean to say it’s not all your f*#@ing fault. Ending the blame game, now I have more time to work on being Committed + Unstoppable. WOW (Watch Out World)…

Ever been in a conversation or rather an all out, eyes glaring, neck muscles strained, teeth gritted holler match with friend, foe, loved one or colleague that kind of goes like this… “Well if it’s not All your fault, you’re at least 50% to blame. Right…” only to leave the bruhaha not even accepting their generous 50% of the blame, fully convinced that it’s still all, 100% their fault. It happens at home and it certainly happens at work. As owner of a small business, the blame game is an all consuming game, that no wonder nothing ever gets done, with all the time spent gathering evidence for a CYA (Cover Your Arse) folder, per my one of my BFF’s deemed this an essentia,l for inter-office survival…

Thankfully, life doesn’t have to be that way, as there is a plethora of great education and training courses, that provide folks like me, what it takes to run a company or have leadership in departments at work. Obviously I can’t try them all, as I would have no time to run what I want to run, i.e. Plank, a luxury yoga products company. However, I’d like to share about the graduate course that I am on, the Team Management and Leader’s Program, (TMLP), care of Landmark Education, and how, after one weekend I found more resolve to help people Get yoga, Get its benefits and Get its access.  TMLP is a communication course in action, a year long training and education, where I apply tools and distinctions about communication  in the safe environment of a classroom, through projects called, “Games in the World.” The definitions appear, at first, benign yet somewhat useful, however when applied to a variety of confrontational environments, within our classroom ‘games’ translation: projects, that’s when the education really kicks in. Everything good or bad in my life, I created it and it was shocking to believe, that i’m not good at talking or listening, but all those around me knew it. Conversly my peeps, think their communication skills excel mine, however, unless they’ve done this course, fact is fact. Not so much. Not to say I’m smarter, cos as we all know, education is only worth s*#@ if not applied. However, I learnt that when I’m in a conversation, more often than not, I’m defending, manipulating or preventing and it affects my ability to hear, such that, I only listen for the break, where I can continue to defend, manipulate or prevent. So now when someone tells me, I’m not listening, I am OK saying you’re right, and then get on with really listening.  The course is not just about enlightenment of the distinctions of communication, it’s about practice and application. The year long roller coaster of breakdowns and breakthroughs is where it’s all at, communicating loud and clear, how Communication ROCKS…

Discovering after all this time, it wasn’t the this, the that or the 50% his or her fault.

It was me, me, me… Oh no, no, no…

Hmmm… wow, woW, wOW …

WOW,  Watch Out World. Hello Committed + Unstoppable…

There’s nothing more awe inspiring than to be part of a team of 700 ordinary people up to extraordinary things who just like me, are very ordinary. We get a lot done and not done. Our only difference is we are united in our goals to be educated to fulfill on our extraordinary projects.

How does this relate to Plank, The Well Heeled Guru, Yoga and resolve, for me. As I’m absorbing all the new information like a sponge, being present, taking on the assignments as the course work outlines, Hermione Granger stylie, with an enhanced awareness of words creating my world, I started to notice my conversations and how I wanted those around me to experience the conversation that their body can have with their mind, if they choose to hear it. Everyone has the ability, to have their body optimally aligned for more power, endurance and flexibility, if they so choose.  There is the verbal articulation of my project, to communicate it powerfully to my team members and there are the actions that I undertake as a result of these words. My real world project is an idea that I always want to bring to the fore for Plank, however when running a small business, time, money and manpower, finding time to fit it in is the challenge. So there I am communicating what my project for this quarter is going to be about and in the meantime my actions over the weekend were as follows…

  1. Impromptu mini yoga class in the hotel gym, where I encourage my team members who were fully dressed to experience some of yoga’s benefits. Yes the hotel gym, with CNN blaring, treadmills whirring, weights crashing ungracefully to the floor and canned music flowing into the room I was able to I was able to give the gift of yoga. At first, they felt a little odd however I explained, I personally don’t need a quiet, zen room to hear what’s going on in my body, I experience it from moment to moment, from new action to new action and this was my goal for them.
  2. Impromptu mini body awareness tips to help being seated for long periods of time with comfort and ease. Our weekends comprise of 2-3 hour seminars, followed by breakout sessions, where we are seated for most of the day. Seeing the discomfort and feeling the impact of intense sedentary activity, I offered 15 minute tip session before our days began.
  3. Having others experience walking up the stairs with ease and agility, when the escalators were not working.
  4. Random lady experience how she could lessen the impact on her ankle by simply putting her awareness to how she was carrying herself.

and on and on it went… I was determined to give my team members tools derived from my yoga practice to help them in their everyday life. In the past, I would share these ideas and hope that they would give them a go. However I noticed as I was sharing these tips, I was really committed that those I encountered, experienced the accessibility themselves, how simple, how easy and available it is for them. Obviously with more time and education, and through the education of a regular yoga practice, it would be easier to witness a new ease when difficult physical body conditions, is invited by a yoga lifestyle. My actions generated from my communications, hollered out to me and others, that I was committed + unstoppable in a mission for everyone to be informed, inspired and in action about using the glorious belt of tools the body has access to, anytime, anywhere, any activity.

How ironic, whilst on this communication course, I discover an unstoppable commitment, such that others listen and act on the communications their body has with their mind. As more people experience the limitless benefits of a regular yoga practice, my goal is that they’ll take to the mat, preferably a Plank Mat but any mat will do, so that they can experience an upgraded and better quality of wellbeing, as a result of their own choice…
